Spend an afternoon back in time as our prestigious series of reenactors and presenters bring the past to life at the Annual Celebration of Freedom at the Lathrop House Saturday August 3. Hear the words of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln as they debate the important issues of the time leading up to the Civil War. Learn about the Lathrop family’s role in the Underground Railroad from Larissa and Lucian themselves.
The program starts right at noon with presentations going on throughout the afternoon until three. Please note: presentations will not be repeated so plan to come early to hear and see it all.
This event is free to the public. You are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair or blanket.
The afternoon will be filled with presentations and demonstrations by historic re-enactors, presentation of the flag by the re-enactors of the 5th US Colored Regiment Infantry, children’s games and light refreshments. Plan on coming early to hear and enjoy everything. Presentations will be happening throughout the afternoon and will not be repeated.
The formal schedule of events concludes at 3:00. Tours of the restored lower section of the Lathrop House will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 PM
